In 1931, Japan began its aggression against China that ultimately escalated, by 1941, to a total war in the entire Asian Pacific region.<
By 1945, when the United States dropped two atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, China has fought a gallant resistance war for 14 years and millions of Chinese endured inhumane treatments and died under the brutal Japanese occupation.
WWII ended more than 60 years ago, but, due to international politics, the people of China never received a formal apology from the Japanese Government for the crimes and atrocities its army committed, nor have the victims and their families been compensated.
Even worse, as the Japanese rightist movement has gained momentum since the 1970’s, the Japanese government not only blatantly denies the crimes its army committed during the war, but also deliberately whitewashes its history books on its past aggression. Lately, Japanese government officials, including the Prime Minister, openly defiant of public opinions in Asian nations, repeatedly went to the Yasukuni Shrine to worship war criminals condemned by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East in 1947.
